Secrets in the Surf, A Santa Barbara Mystery Romance

Can Hannah abandon her commitment to Poor Clares Monastery or stay true to the Church? Locals Hannah and Will are accidentally plunged into shocking criminal activities on the beautiful Santa Barbara coast.

Following her debut novel, Mayhem at the Mission,  Laura Eltherington takes readers on an energetic romp through the beautiful coastal city of Santa Barbara, California. Both a love story and a historical mystery, Secrets in the Surf is the perfect read for anyone who lives in Santa Barbara – or who wishes they did. Laura Eltherington has over 20 years of experience as a marketing designer and brand strategist. What none of Laura’s colleagues knew was that she was as masterful of a storyteller in words as in images. And if you’d asked any of them to guess what topic their irreverent friend with Goth fashion sensibilities would write about, no one would have guessed “an aspiring nun named Hannah.” Laura, a longtime Santa Barbara resident, conceived her novel while running by the Santa Barbara Mission. Her challenge? To convince her daughter to read a single chapter of her first novel. Her second in the series takes you through a romantic coastline mystery filled with fascinating historical facts.

A quick mystery/romance read that’s especially fun for people familiar with Santa Barbara and environs. It’s mostly ‘G’ rated (it is about a nun, after all!) and I did learn a lot about the Catholic Church. A nice read for a plane flight.

Super fun mix of a love story and crime novel. Especially interesting if you live in or have visited Santa Barbara. Kept my interest the whole time.

Mayhem at the Mission hooks you with detail and keeps you reading with a great plot. It’s an art crime whodunnit simmering in the biological challenges of Hanna the wannabe nun.
